Great success at the Arduino 201 - Get Motorin' meetup. Yes, those are groceries in the background. All in, we had 11 people come out. Special thanks to Solarbotics for L298 Compact Motor Driver kits, Adafruit Industries for a Motor Shield, Sobey's for the free room, and Cedric and Steph for the presentation monitor, photography (not these pics here, much better ones to come), and the infrastructure support. Read on for details...

These L298 CMD kits were fun to play with. It got especially interesting when Cedric hooked one up to a bipolar stepper and we tried to figure out how to drive that, sort of from first principles (alas no net access). And I saw Natalie driving a variety of motors out of the grab bag.

Limor from Adafruit kicked in one of these sweet Motor Shields which made their way around the room.

Gus and Nick bravely made some ultra-simple one-coil-spins-on-paperclips motors.
The rest of my pics are here and Steph, our official photographer with the really rockin' camera will have some much better pics up real soon now. A few people have asked for my slide deck, but I can't post it here as it's twice the 1MB limit. I'll try to figure out an alternative. And Ranen shot video of the presentation so that should be interesting...
Thanks everyone for the support.
